Welcome to Sci-Fi Fans Online! (Formerly Star Wars Fans Online)

Founder Janell Ware at
Phantom Menace Premiere

Sci-Fi Fans Online is an internet-based group of fans who meet offline periodically for special events. The group was started in 1993 by Janell Ware Schiffbauer as part of the AOL Star Wars Online Fan Club, which hosts online trivia games and chats.  During an online chat meeting, a small group of us decided to meet in person at Disneyland.  It was a huge success!

Word of mouth spread and our numbers grew.  Internet friends from outside AOL asked to join up.   In 1997, we formed "Star Wars Fans Online" to include our members from across the internet.  Because of our group's diverse science fiction interest, In January of 2001 the name of the group was changed to "Sci-Fi Fans Online".

We meet at conventions, movie openings, and area amusement parks a few times yearly, coordinating information via Email and the internet. Since our humble beginnings, some of our escapades have received media attention worldwide. Attendance at some events has topped 100 people. We are perhaps best known for the big Star Wars premiere costume parties at Mann's Chinese Theater in Hollywood.

The Sci-Fi Fans Online web site is both the nerve center for coordinating upcoming activities and the official archive for past events. Convention/event schedules, photos, a member gallery, and links to related sites can all be found here.

I hope you enjoy your visit to the site. If you're interested in joining, be sure to check out the "Join!" page. Feel free to EMail me with your comments or questions.
