sliders - is a wonderful show created by Tracey Tormé and Robert K. Weiss.
"It's about a young genius
named Quinn Mallory, who's trying to create an anti-gravity machine in
the basement of his house that he's turned into a laboratory. Instead,
he accidentally opens up a gateway to somewhere, a rip in the fabric of
time and space, and he doesn't really know where it leads. Eventually
he discovers that it leads to parallel Earths and other universes, and
he and his college professor and a girl from the local computer store go
along on this experimental trip with him. Along the way, they meet
Rembrandt Brown, who happens to be driving past the house at the wrong
time, and he and his Cadillac
get swept up all at once."
"The four characters
land in a frozen San Francisco that's had some kind of ecological disaster
(that, or the ice-age never really ended). Rembrandt's Cadillac goes
right into an iceberg, which is the worse thing that's ever happened to
him, because he loves his car so much, and for various reasons, the timing
device they're using to return home gets screwed up pretty badly, and they
end up lost." - writer/producer Tracey Tormé.
Their intention is to find their way home
