Dana Scully is portrayed by Gillian Anderson
Dana Katherine Scully, born February 23, 1964, is a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (Badge No. 2317-616). Scully joined the FBI after leaving a career in medicine. She does, however, have a medical degree (extent unknown) and gratuated from a course in B.S. Physics, from the University of Maryland, in 1986. She is currently assigned to the Bureau's "X-Files" with partner Special Agent Fox Mulder.

The X-Files are unsolved cases usually dealing with paranormal and / or abnormal phenomena. Scully was assigned to the X-Files by Section Chief Scott Blevins - under the orders of the Cigarette Smoking Man and an organisation known as "Roush" - to provide a scientific analysis of Mulder's work. She was originally skeptical of aliens and other paranormal phenomena. But, after she was abducted by one of the government's UFOs which was made to look like an alien abduction, she was forced into becoming a believer.

The Cigarette Smoking Man made the men responsible for her abduction return her, just in time for her to discover that a small computer chip - like some form of identification - was implanted in the base of her neck. After having the chip removed, Scully was drawn to a group of women who had also had similar chips removed from their necks. Each and every one of the women had contracted an incurable form of cancer, and it was only a matter of time before Scully herself contracted the cancer.

After the death of her father, who died of a heart attack, Scully was again mourning when Alex Krycek and Luis Cardinal were dispatched to kill her but instead they killed her sister Melissa.

It was after the death of her sister that Scully discovered she had cancer, and that it was given to her. She originally believed that Assistant Director Skinner was responsible, but it was later revealed that Blevins and an organisation known as Roush were to be blamed. She was then cured by re-inserting a chip similar to the one she had removed.

Also, as a result of her abduction, Scully discovered that she could not conceive a child, but it was what appeared to be the ghost of Melissa who drew Scully to a murder investigation which involved a young girl who would later be revealed to be Scully's daughter. The girl, Emily, was killed while undergoing testing for a strange lump on the back of her neck, and the discovery of a network of disease throughout her body.

Scully was then drawn to a dam when a function of the chip was set off. Hundreds upong hundreds of UFO abductees were drawn to the mountain simultaneously, and there they were burned to death by an undiscovered breed of aliens bent on stopping other aliens who intend on colonising Earth. Scully was saved from being burned.
