This
is the continuing story of Luke Skywalker and his trial by fire
into Jedi Knighthood. Undoubtably people will argue this statement
is false in light of the new movies. They will claim that it shows
instead Anakin's struggle to overcome what he has become in face
of what he must do in order to protect his son. He was succesful
in talking the Emporer out of simply killing the "son of
Skywalker" and making him an ally. A small booboo by the
Emperor that eventually led to his destruction. But the Emporer
did not see that Vader hadn't been completely converted to the
Dark side as is later revealed in Return of the Jedi.
This
(In my small, underappreciated, yet unique opinion) is the greatest
motion picture ever made. Nothing, nothing comes close to the
Star Wars movies and Empire is it's greatest achievement. Unless
Episode One is better and though salivaiting at the thought of
seeing it, I doubt it will be better than Empire. I would, however,
be happy to be proved wrong. Better than Empire? Can a human being
withstand such greatness?
This
movie has the greatest climax in the series as well. An as yet
unmatched Lightsaber duel between Luke and his father in cloud
city while at the same time Leia and Chewie race to save han and
then finally themselves. The last fight between Luke and his Father
is fantastic and Vader delivers some of his best lines in that
scene. "You are beaten, it is useless to resist. Don't let
yourself be destroyed as Obi-Wan did." Kind of takes on a
deeper meaning after what we know of Episode I now, huh? "When
I left you I was but the learner, now I am the master"
