Is something bugging you about the scene above? Wait a minute! That wasn't in the movie! I'm sure that all of you loyal and true Star Wars fans know where this scene was going to be in the movie and what is actually behind that door. The rest of you will have to email me for the answer. If you ask really nicely I will tell you.

The Empire Strikes Back

This is the continuing story of Luke Skywalker and his trial by fire into Jedi Knighthood. Undoubtably people will argue this statement is false in light of the new movies. They will claim that it shows instead Anakin's struggle to overcome what he has become in face of what he must do in order to protect his son. He was succesful in talking the Emporer out of simply killing the "son of Skywalker" and making him an ally. A small booboo by the Emperor that eventually led to his destruction. But the Emporer did not see that Vader hadn't been completely converted to the Dark side as is later revealed in Return of the Jedi.

This (In my small, underappreciated, yet unique opinion) is the greatest motion picture ever made. Nothing, nothing comes close to the Star Wars movies and Empire is it's greatest achievement. Unless Episode One is better and though salivaiting at the thought of seeing it, I doubt it will be better than Empire. I would, however, be happy to be proved wrong. Better than Empire? Can a human being withstand such greatness?

In this movie we see Luke change dramatically, from the naive, adventure-seeking, white clad farm boy into the beginnings of a Jedi. His clothes change to a tan color, an earth tone or neutral color. His powers increase most notably his telekentic skills and leaping ability. You'll remember the difficulty he had with calling his lightsaber to him at the beginning of the film which by the end flew to his outstretched hand on command.

This movie has the greatest climax in the series as well. An as yet unmatched Lightsaber duel between Luke and his father in cloud city while at the same time Leia and Chewie race to save han and then finally themselves. The last fight between Luke and his Father is fantastic and Vader delivers some of his best lines in that scene. "You are beaten, it is useless to resist. Don't let yourself be destroyed as Obi-Wan did." Kind of takes on a deeper meaning after what we know of Episode I now, huh? "When I left you I was but the learner, now I am the master"

"Obi-Wan has taught you well, you have controlled your fear..."

Now on to the Special edition...

Here we see the updated Wampa scene.

I love all these scenes that they added to Cloud City. You really get a feel of it being a huge city now as apposed to just a set that's supposed to be a city. (Not that I felt that way about the original version of Empire but you know what I mean)

Other updates included windows being installed or improved. Note the cloud car flying by in the immediately precedding shot.

The approach of the Millienium Falcon to Cloud City.

How about the addition of a mining platform or the removal of an entire wall? How on Earth they did that one with the reflections on the floor and still make it look so damn good is beyond me.

A small sequence involving the Slave I as it pursues the falcon from the Avenger's garbage field was added to expand the scene.

I wasn't really wild about the inclusion of Vader going to his Star Destroyer. I think it interrupted the timing of this tightly packed sequence. Not to mention Commander Jerjerrod from return of the Jedi is standing to the far right in the last pic.

This however I loved. It always bugged the hell out of me that when the hatch opened you saw nothing but white when you should see the bottom of the city. So what they did was add another hatch so you didn't see the white. I'm glad this change was made.
