I will not condone a course of action that will lead us to war. The following is from Cinescape.

Despite the fact that the planet Naboo is ruled by a queen, it is not a hereditary monarchy -- the monarch is elected. That much diligent Star Wars fans already know, but there's more from my source. After the world's King Veruna abdicated his throne, the planet needed a new leader. At the tender age of 12, Amidala, who was raised by humble parents in a small mountain village, was crowned the princess of Theed (Naboo's capitol city). Surprisingly though, she is not the youngest monarch ever to reign on Naboo. Two years after becoming a princess, not long before the events of The Phantom Menace, Amidala was coronated queen.

The future Emperor Palpatine is indeed Naboo's representative in the Galactic Senate, as previously reported, says my source. However, Naboo is not the only world that Palpatine represents: He is the senator for a quadrant of 366 worlds. Although he was born on Naboo, Palpatine had only met Amidala once before the events of The Phantom Menace. Furthermore, there is some friction between the queen and the senator, since Amidala has the impression that Palpatine is more interested bolstering his political standing than advancing the will of those he represents (Palpatine didn't get along with King Veruna either though, it seems). As mentioned in the Star Wars novelization, Palpatine appears to be a quiet and unassuming man, but he also prefers to take action in a situation rather than waste time bickering in debate. Still, patience is his greatest virtue, and we all know where that gets him later in the prequel trilogy.

Armored Attack Tanks (AATs)
Episode I
These lumbering Trade Federation land ships are not exactly speeder bikes, but their heavily armored noses are strong enough to smash through walls

Battle droids.

The following is a commentary on the operating procedures of the Battledroids in Star Wars The Phantom Menace. How do they operate? Why does a droid army controlled by s single control ship need commanders, captains, corporal and a command structure at all? This commentary is my own theories as to why with assistance by my friend Shola12.

As we know the droid armies of the Trade Federation are controlled from a central Control ship. If this is the case why would you need to communicate with a droid Commander? Let's assume that the Control ship actually broadcasts just a standard operating code for the droid army including the Destroyer droid and others automaton controlled by the control ship. We can also assume that this would protect the droids from being taken over from remote computers and being used against the trade federation.

Why independent droids? There are a couple of theories that present themselves as to why there would be Roger, roger!independent droids within the army. First of all you have thousands of droids running around all controlled by one ship. A certain level of autonomy is required in order for this army to operate effectively. They must take into account new situations and make on the spot threat assessments. If this were all done remotely it would not be as effective as droids able to make their own decisions on site.
Let's assume that the remote Control ship was up to the task of handling all these separate droids then why would we need autonomous droids? Perhaps the Neimodians preferred to interface with droids that talk back and act like "actual" lifeforms, than telling a master control computer to wipe out the Jedi or destroy the Gungan army. Along the same lines is a matter of ego. To have a being, even if it is a battledroid, be respectful and follow their orders without question, is a terrific boost to the ego of a race of cowards and bullies.
Why Rank? Again, with thousands of droids to keep track of number designations would get confusing faster than a Jedi could dispatch a battledroid. So while it's doubtful that battledroids actually "gain" rank it is probably in place to refer to the battledroids to something instead of a series of letters and numbers. Another possibility is that the droids are activated and are dumber than lead. (Considering none of them figured out that firing at a lightsaber wielding Jedi was a no-no this is a possibility) When they continue to function they get "smarter" and are able to gain more responsibility over their dumber brethren. That captain at least told the other droid that they "would cover him" when they were told to kill the Jedi at the beginning of the film. It didn't save him but he had a couple of nano-seconds more of existence to him
Another thing to consider is if the droids were being completely controlled by the command ship what would happen if the leaders were incommunicado with control ship. There would be a need for independent droids so orders could still be given.

The following is taken from the Star Wars Episode I incredible cutaways book.

Droid Control Ship
The single critically important vessel among the Trade Federation fleet of battleships is the Droid Control ship. Custom-fitted with massive transmitters, receiver antennas, monitor sensors, and numerous additional reactors and power substations to run them, the Droid Control ship contains tremendous computer banks and the Control Brain Network, which transmits the signals vital to the functioning of every battle droid in the Trade Federation army. From this one Droid Control ship is broadcast the controls signals that direct each droid's actions, making up for the very limited onboard logic systems of minimalist droids. Without this constant signal and its stabilizing carrier wave, the battle droids would be useless "terminals," incapable of independent action or self-control.

At last we will have revenge.
(From Cinescape) One quick glance at Darth Maul reveals that he's some sort of alien. Horns, strange facial markings and those eerie yellow eyes give that much away. According to this source, Maul (whose "real" name is Khameir Sarin) is from a species called "Zabrak". Observant Star Wars fans might have noticed that there is a similarly horned member of the Jedi Council. He's a Zabrak too, named Eth Kooth.

So how did Darth Maul/Khameir Sarin get caught up in the black arts, anyway? Apparently, after a long search for a suitable apprentice, Darth Sidious discovered the young Force user on the Zabrak homeworld, Iridonia, when Khameir was just twelve years old. Sidious forced the lad to lay a trap for some of his friends. This ambush ended up killing seven Jedi Knights, and the after effects transformed Sarin into the second of the two Dark Lords of the Sith.

The Sith themselves were apparently formed 2,000 years before the events of The Phantom Menace by a rogue Jedi Knight (never mind those comic books, I guess). Their numbers swelled, but the evil Force wielders battled each other as much as they did the Jedi. Then a Dark Lord named Darth Bane changed the rules: From his time forward there would be only two Dark Lords at a time, a master and an apprentice. Because of this rarity of Sith, the Jedi Knights of pre-Phantom Menace time rarely used their lightsabers to duel. More often than not, the weapons would be used to deflect blaster shots or (presumably) for ornamental purposes.

Battle droids and Trade federation Droid fighter. The Droid fighter is the one standing on four legs in the back. It also converts, transformer style into a starfighter which can be seen later on these pages. During production of Episode I the art department refered to the Trade Federation droid Starfighter as the "Vulture Droid".
