Isobelle Carmody

Isobelle Carmody grew up looking after her seven brothers and sisters, whom she kept in line by telling stories. She began the first of The Obernewtyn Chronicles while she was still at high school, and worked on it while completing a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in literature, and then a journalism cadetship. She has worked as a journalist and radio interviewer, and lectures around the world on creative writing.

Obernewtyn went on to be shortlisted for the 1988 CBC Book of the Year Awards. The sequel, The Farseekers, was named an Honour Book in the 1991 awards.

Isobelle now divides her time between her home on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, and travelling abroad. She is currently working on the fourth book in the Obernewtyn series, The Keeping Place.
