Tie Fighter (Sienar Systems Tie/Ln Space Superiority Starfighter)
The Tie Fighter is the Empire's most
common Star Fighter. It is armed with a pair of forward firing
laser cannons. It carries no shields so is very manovable and
agile and relies on this as its major defence due to a low
armour. It also has no hyperdrive, this means that it is very
depend on a home base such as a Star
Destroyer, a Planet or space station such as the Death Star.
The fighter also carries no life support so the
pilot needs to wear a sealed flying gear with anm oxygen supply.
The TIE fighter carries Twin Ion Engines hence it's name. The
main power source is the batteries and the wings which are actual
solar arrays. These disadvantages however lead to lower costs so
the empire can field huge numbers of these fighters which can be
deemed expendable allowing lots of these fightewrs to be thrown
into battle with little need for them to return . The Tie fighter
is very outmatched by the Rebel fighters, for example the X wing can take a lot more
punishment.so it has been necessary to replace them with Tie interceptors, Tie defenders and Tie Advanced.
Tie Fighters were deployed in
all the major space engagements, In the the Battle of Yavin Darth Vader lead a small group of fighters into
the equitoral trench to great effect, destroying the Y wings from the rear as their
deflectorfields were facing forwards. After the battle of Hoth, tie Fighters persued the
escaping Rebels, including a group which chased the Falcon into an asteroid
field. In the Battle of Endor Tie
Fighters were released from their Star destroyers to attack the Rebel capital
ships and take out the enemy fighters.
