Tie Advanced
The TIE advanced was an upgrade on the TIE Fighter before the TIE interceptor was released.
It was created because the Rebellion's tactics were proving
sucessful and the Empire needed Fighters which could match the
Rebel's. The Tie Advanced was created and contained the following
upgrades to the Orginal Tie, the Ship carries four lasers instead
of two, The ship has modist hyperdrive and shield systems and had
a stronger hull. It still lacked a life support system and had
lost manovabilty due the modifications. Due to higher energy
needs, the Tie advanced used a new bent wing design so the solar
arrarys will be larger this meant the extra power could be
generated.
The TIE advanced never realy made into
active service, due to the excessive cost and the fact that
Imperial commanders were woried that these fighters would reduce
the number of capital ships being built. Only a few Elite units
gained these fighters for example Darth Vader recieved one for Courier missions.
The Tie advanced was abandoned for the Tie Interceptor which
included many of the benifits of The tie advanced without shiels
or hyperdrive.
A Tie advanced flown by Darth
Vader was one of the three crafts in the Battle of Yavin, the ship proved well abled in
shooting down the Y wings and
its strength of shields and hull allowed Darth Vader to surive
the exploding death star even though he was thrown into space.
