Snow Speeder
The Snow speeders were deployed on the
planet Hoth, where a dozen
Snow speeders prepared to hold off the Empire's Advance long
enough to save a lot of the Alliance's equipment which took off
in Rebel Transports.
The Snow speeders are actually Incom T-47 air speeders modified to be used in the extreme cold by rebel technicons. They are equiped with two blaster cannons and a tow cable fired from the rear. It ws this cable which allows Wedge Antillies to take down an AT AT walker by winding it around the legs. They are powered by repulsor lift engines and so are restricted to Atmospheric flight. These craft needed modifiing to work in the extreme cold on Hoth because of the motors freezing and ice freezing up moving parts. They are used for patroling due their light weaponary and cargo hauling duie tothe magnetic tow cable.
These fighters are also used in other terrains for example sand, jungle and swamps and may be named acordingly for example sandspeeders.
