R2D2 Astromech Droid
R2D2 is an astomech droid. He
was orginally used by the Alderaan diplomat ship, the Tantive IV and was given
orders by Princess Leia to
use one of the Escape pods
and escape to take the plans of the Death star to Obi wan Kenobi.
He was captured along with his companion C3P0 by the Jawas on tatooine by being fried with an ion cannon., he was soon sold to
the Lars Family and Luke
Skywalker. R2D2 brought Luke to Obi wan Kenobi and then left
with C3P0 and the Humans on the Falcon to Alderaan,
unfortually they were captured by the death star. After Escaping
and joining the Rebellion, R2D2 became Luke's personal droid,
becoming an important part of Lukes life and some times his 
only companion. R2D2 later flew with him on the battle of Yavin where he was
badley damaged but was repaired.
R2D2 also accompied Luke to dagoba and took part in the ground forces in the battle of Endor.
