Death Star
The Death Star, A mighty battle station
built by the Empire to scare Rebelious worlds into submission.
The death star was the brain child of Grand Moff Tarkin and once approved of by the Empereor was put into
production. The Death star's main weaponary was the mighty
superlaser which was powerfull enough to vapourise a planet but
lacked the targeting to enable it to be used at ships. The death
star was huge, the size of a moon it was over 120 km in diamenter
and was crammed with weaponary and men. The weaponary included
turbolasers, tractor beam batteries, however there was not enough
anti-starfighter weaponary which made it very vulerable although
the designers did no relise this. It was this precisis flaw in
design which was used by the rebellion. Two squadrons of fighters
attacked it at Yavin
including Luke Skywalker.
Another flaw was the equitoral trench, in theory a fighter could
fly down the trench dodging laser fire and firng a missile down
the exhaust tube. Luke skywalker destroyed the station when he
hit the reaction core with a proton torpedo with his x wing fighter.
After this loss The Empire built the second death star(pictured above). The Emperor used the construction of the reserected deathstar over Endor to force the Rebellion into battle by a ruse which he knew the alliance could not leave. A completed death star was too horible to imagine so the Rebels attacked. The battle of Endor was engaged, the Rebels were victorious and the Emperor lost his life. The new Death star had several advantages, the weaknesses in the orginal design was fixed so it was not open to attack by star fighters. The size was enlarged to 160km in diameter to enable more weaponary, men and ships to be carried. The main upgrade was however that the superlaser was increased in fire rate, damage and targeting ability allowing Palaptine to order the station to fire on rebel ships. The only hope for the Rebellion was to attack the death star while it was being built so walked into the trap. Han Solo lead the attack on Endor where the shield generators where protecting the giant space station. In theory his sucess in knocking down the shields would allow lando and his fighters to destroy the death star by flying through the superstructure but it was actually destroyed in a collision with the Executor a super star destroyer which had been cripple by a kamazii A wing run.
