Bespin
Bespin is a gas
giant and so has no land, however the Tibana gas of the system is
valuable for powering blasters, and so
civilization has settled in floating cities such Cloud city who Lando Calrissian was Baron
Administrator of. The main purpose of Cloud city is to harvest
the Tibana gas which is naturally spin sealed, so cutting down
costs - thus making it commercially viable. Cloud city also
features luxury hotels, casinos and over servives and was an
important tourist destination and it did not have loyallty to any
government except its own, which had certain advantages for
smugglers and gamblers. This however changed when Darth Vader arrived in search
of Han Solo, An Imperial
presence was to posted on the floating city so Lando was forced to evacuate
the city and join the Rebellion. In cloud city C3P0 was disesembled due to seeing the Storm
troopers he was later rebuilt by Chewbacca.
Cloud city is 16 km in diameter and 17km
tall, it is powered by Repulsorlift engines which keep it
floating above the gaseous giant in a small strip of atmosphere
which is oxygen based, and so is breathable. It has few defences
and relies upon the wing guard in combat cloud cars tostop
intruders. The population of Cloud city is mostly human with a
few other alien species, the major one of which are the
ugnaughts, small workers they were later held as slaves under the
Empire.
It is also equiped with a carbonite
freezing system which was designed to freeze the gas so it could
be transported more easily but
Darth Vader planed to use it to capture Luke Skywalker and transport him back to the Emperor however a test
subject was needed and Han
Solo was frozen and taken by Boba Fett to Jabbas Palace, when unfrozen he
encounters hibernation sickness - temperoary blindness and
disortitaition. Lando feeling guilty helped in the rscue of his
one time friend.
