AT-ST
The AT-ST is the All Terrain Scout
Transport. It utilises the same nechnology as the AT-AT except on a smaller
scale. The AT-ST has less armour than the AT-AT walker and only
has two legs giving it less balance. Its lower armour means it
must rely more on speed than armour as a defence. Its head can
turn 360 degrees and has a chin mouted double blaster cannon. The walker is also equiped
with a light laser cluster and a grenade launcher which are
mounted on the sides of the armour plated head section. The AT-ST
is powered by a grio system, which is very susceptible to small
arms fire, so a direct hit here can imobalise the walker, this
system is also upset by uneven terrain, this is becasue it is two
legged instead of 4. The AT ST is a two person vechicle. The crew
is a driver and a dedicated gunner who gain access through a
hatch to the top of the head. The crew either climb up handholds
on the legs or use a specialist platform, however either way the
hatch is relativley inaccessible to enemy troops enless they are
a Wookie like chewbacca,
when he captured one of these walkers in Han Solo's attack on the shield bunker on Endor.
The AT-ST was deployed on Hoth
and Endor in two
different mission profiles, the first is that of on Endor that of
reconnaissance due to their speed and
mobility. Their relative strength alows them to be deployed like
mechanised infantry as a vanguard to the storm trooper batallions where firepower gives
the infantry well needed firepower. They can be used in
conjection with speeder bikes
to form an early warning screen around the shield bunker. The
second mission profile was used on Hoth when AT-STs were deployed to hold AT AT flanks due to their
increased mobilty and speed.
