My name is Darren and I am 35 years old. I live in Australia and I have suffered from Psoriasis for about 19 years. I realised I had Psoriasis at the age of around 16. I found it very hard to deal with and also found that other people didn't know how to deal with it. I became very embarressed by it. I closed up and lost all my confidence. At the time there wasn't really many treatments available and none that really helped me. I tried many so called treatments and cures. I would have given everything I had, to be rid of it. Finally I found that by tanning in the sunshine started to clear it up and make it go away completely. Also my confidence and love of life started to grow again. But once the summer had ended and I started to lose my tan, the Psoriasis would come back. I went to a Dermatologist and he actually suffered from Psoriasis himself. He told me that there was no known cure and if there was he would know about it first. He used Ultraviolet light in combination with tablets or creams. I was not a bad case so I only used creams such as Diprosone and Elocon. By applying the cream at night and then going under the Ultraviolet lights every 2 to 3 days, my Psoriasis started to clear up again. It is only temporary but it helped. So now I go out in the sun during Summer and use Solariums in Winter, with the creams that I was perscribed. I sometimes think that the large amount of exposure to the sun and and Ultraviolet light may give me skin cancer. It is like this ! Live a confident and happy life, running the risk of skin cancer. Or live a life where I am nervous about going out in public and hide away all my life and be very unhappy. I chose to take the risk. Life is not forever and I want a fullfilled life, however short it may be. Some people are not bothered by there Psoriasis and do not get embarressed like me. Those people probably will not visit this page because they don't feel the need. I started this page for people like myself that find it hard to deal with.
