| 1777 | U.S. Congress adopts the following: that the flag of the United States be 13 Stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be 13 stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation. (Stars represent Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, South Carolina, New Hampshire, Virginia, New York, North Carolina and Rhode Island.) |
| 1795 | 15 -Two more stars and stripes are added for Vermont and Kentucky. (Flag now has 15 stripes) |
