In 2285, under the command of Captain Clark Terrell, was assigned to survey planets in Mutara Sector in support of Project Genesis. Durnig the mission, the Reliant was destroyed when it was hijacked by Khan Noonien Singh. The ship had been on a scentific mission and was surveying planet Ceti Alpha V, on which Khan had been marooned. Khan had left the Reliant's crew behind the Ceti Alpha V.
This type of ship was introduced in the late 23rd century. Miranda-class starship have included the Reliant and the Saratoga. This kind of ships were similar to Soyuz-class vessels.
