PROJECT GENESIS AND GENESIS DEVICE
The Genesis Device
The Project Genesis is a scientific research project whose goal was to develop a process whereby uninhabitable planets could be re-formed into worlds suitable for life. The process involved a massive explosion that reduced the planet to subatomic particles, which then reassembled according to a preprogrammed matrix.
Project Genesis, under the direction of Dr. Carol Marcus, conducted a successful test of the process in a cavern inside the Regula planetoid. A second more ambitious test was initiated when Khan stole the Genesis Device, resulting the formation of a habitable planet from the remains of the Mutara Nebula. The Genesis Device is a short-range torpedo intended to test the Project Genesis terraforming process.
Although initial tests of Genesis Device showed remarkable promise, the process was later found to be unworkable due to the dangerously unstable nature of protomatter used in Genesis matrix.
