GURPS Sniper Rifles (TL 7)

Version 1.1

This is a selection of high-precision rifles for special operations played with GURPS, like the DarkEagle  campaign.

Some weapon descriptions have codes (e.g. [h, l, n, s, f]) indicating possible modifications/accessories. A code in round brackets (e.g. (s)) indicates that the weapon is already fitted with that extra. Click on the codes to go to the modifications/accessories page.

A "+" or "-" after Type of damage means a caliber-based wounding modifier (p. HT7), applies to the remaining damage after subtracting DR: "-" means halve damage; "+" means multiply by 1.5; "++" means double remaining damage. Damage for 10mm+ (.40+) caliber pistol bullets that penetrate is multiplied by 1.5 (see p. B209).

Use the Guns [Rifle] skill with sniper rifles.

.45 ACP (11.43×23mm) [(h),(l), (n), (s)]
Note: This is a long barreled, silenced, semiautomatic, pistol-caliber rifle of very fine quality, fitted with an infrared laser-sight and an infrared night sight. It is normally fired with the silencer; without the silencer DAM would be 5d. The silencer can be mounted (and removed) in 3 seconds (-8 to hear shoots, -10 to recognize if unfamiliar with). If possible, it is fired from a tripod, further increasing accuracy (Acc) by +2.
The usual ammunition for this weapon is Hollow Point, giving +1 to DR of any target, and doubling the DR of anything hit, but also multiplying all damage that penetrates by 1.5 (in addition to the bullet size modifier).
This weapon is built on the specifications of the CIA for an optimized silenced assassination rifle. The name is generic as nobody will ever admit having built, issued, or used this weapon. It comes in a special suitcase, broken down into several easy to reassemble components, together with an optional daylight telescopic sight, a light tripod, two spare magazines, a cleaning kit, an observation binocular, and a thermite self-destruction anti-theft system. The complete suitcase weighs 26 lbs.
Owners of GURPS Special Ops will recognize a certain resemblance with the WW2 De Lisle Carbine. The CIA-Rifle puts the old concept to a contemporary extreme. In recent years several russian designs came more or less close to the "CIA-Rifle" concept, notably the AS "Val", the VSK-94 and the VSS "Vintorez".

M40A1 The sniper rifle of the U.S. Marine Corps is the military version of the Remington Model 700 BDL Heavy Barrel Varmint rifle. It is one of the most accurate rifles existing. With a special telescopic sight the Acc can be raised to 17, but this scope is very fragile and not suitable for military use (+4 lbs., +$1,200, Holdout No).

Windrunner with stock retracted This rifle by First Defense International is the first .50 cal breakdown tactical sniper rifle. It is compact and discreet for transportation in specially designed waterproof and floating O 'Ring sealed carry cases approximately 30"×15". Assembling or breakdown takes 15 seconds, reduced to 10 seconds on a successful rifle-4 skill roll, much longer if unfamiliar with the weapon.
