Power Rangers: Tribulation Force; Episode #1

"The Final Tribulation"

Written by Sean Ekey

Earth; for centuries it was protected by an interdimensional being known as Zordon. An alien Wizard that came to earth from his home planet of Eltar to defeat evil once and for all in the entire Galaxy. Throughout the ages he used teams of mighty heroes to defend earth against such threats as Rita Repulsa, and Lord Zedd, as well as many other powerful evil forces. No one knew exactly where the ability to create such awesome energies came from. At times even Zordon himself was amazed at the powers he had been given.

While still a resident of his home planet Eltar, Zordon was known as the wisest man to ever grace the planet. He sought to use the wisdom he had gained to bring peace throughout the galaxy, yet he himself was not strong enough to fight the forces of evil that lurked in each corner of the known universe, he earnestly sought out a power great enough to complete such a task. As he continued to research legends and so called myths, His search brought him to a young planet called Earth. There he came across a forgotten portal far below the Earth's seemingly normal exterior. This portal took him to a place that would forever change the course of history for this planet.

Within the portal Zordon discovered two awesome powers. One of these powers was an age old evil. Older than time itself. An evil force known only as The Blackness, for it had never been seen by mortal man, it existed before the creation of the universe. It was locked away by the gods, so that it would never be released, and the universe would be saved. Zordon left this power untouched. However, also in this strange realm he located a large crystal, that emitted a strong power energy. This force was pure good, this was exactly what was needed to help him complete his quest to free the universe from all evil.

Zordon arose from the portal realm he uncovered, and as he did he realized that evil forces might seek to wield the awesome power for their own purposes, so he separated the crystal into 7 shards. One of the shards he used to make himself the powerful wizard he was, giving him the means to create other powers as he saw a need. The other 6 shards were given to what was then 6 small clans of people on the young planet Earth. These shards were to be passed through the ages, and if the evil forces he came across in the portal realm were ever released a chosen team of heroes were to be called upon, one from each of the clans who had a shard.

As time went on, the shards were forgotten. They were still passed from generation to generation, yet the purpose for this passing was forgotten. As time went on Zordon became encased in a tube of energy after a spell was placed upon him, to ensure his life force would stay in this dimension. Evil slowly began to seek out the one force that threatened to end its reign on the universe, thus brining them to earth. Zordon used the Crystal shard to create teams of heroes known as the Power Rangers, and these heroes successfully fought off evil's attacks. They were the one force that stood between evil and their plans to conquer the universe. But an evil force that matched that of the evil Zordon saw that day in the portal realm had yet to be matched.

A creature named Lerigot freed Zordon from his Interdimensional limbo, and finally allowed him to return home to his planet - Eltar. He did so believing that his job was complete. A team of heroes was set in place who were truly equipped to save the Universe. But the happy ending Zordon expected never came to be. As he returned to his planet, a new evil force, unsurpassed in power by anything anyone in this galaxy had ever seen, captured the good wizard and imprisoned him. This creature - Dark Specter, was so powerful that all the evil forces in the universe bowed to him. He brought them all together to achieve the common goal of destroying all good in the universe. He would do so by draining Zordon's power, and making it his own. "When the lava rises, Zordon's power shall be mine, and he will be no more" Dark Specter commanded his troops.

However, Dark Specters plan would soon take a turn for the worst. During the final battle with good, he was destroyed through a mutiny, leaving Astronema, the princess of evil, and sister to the Red Power Ranger Andros in charge of all evil in the universe. When it seemed as though there was no hope left for anyone, Earth was about to surrender to evil, which would allow all of Zordon's worst fears to be realized. Andros did not want that to happen. He journeyed to the Dark Fortress - evil Astronema's base of command, to try one final time to turn her to the side of good.

While searching for his sister, he managed to find himself alone on the bridge of the evil ship. There Zordon was waiting for him. The two had met before, Andros was the only other living being to know the source of Zordon's power, and about the evil hidden below the Earth. Zordon was more than merely his mentor as he had been to Rangers past. These two were trusted allies, and Zordon had instructed Andros to carry out his plans to find the six forgotten warriors, should anything ever happen to him. Zordon called out to Andros, "Andros, evil has already taken most of the Galaxy, and soon they will take Earth." Zordon instructed. "However, there is a way for you to stop this." He continued. Andros became puzzled, "How Zordon. Show me what to do." "Shatter my energy tube Andros." Zordon instructed, "A wave of energy will be released that will purify the galaxy." Andros was torn. Should he destroy his friend?

"What will happen to you Zordon?" Andros asked. "I will be gone, but my spirit will forever live on in all that is good." Zordon told him. Andros lifted his saber to shatter the energy tube, but reluctantly pulled away. "You ask too much Zordon, I wont destroy you." Andros answered. His chance had passed, for Astronema, his sister was standing in the shadows waiting for a chance. She lunged at him and a vicious battle ensued. Only one was left standing, and it was Andros. Ecliptor, Astronema's guardian protector made his way into the bridge of the Dark Fortress, he vowed to destroy Andros for what he had done. But after Andros delivered two fatal blows to him, he fell to the ground, giving Andros on last chance to finish what he knew had to be done. Zordon spoke again " Andros, you must destroy my energy tube." This time Andros did not hesitate, he knew this would be his final chance to finish the job. Then with the final swift blow to the energy tube it shattered. A stream of energy was released that spread out throughout the entire universe. This wave destroyed all the existing evil.

Peace seemed to have finally been reached, and even thought Zordon was gone, his dream had finally been realized. His sacrifice was not for nothing. However, sometimes looks can be deceiving. Although all evil in this dimension was gone forever, the seal in the chamber of the sage, the sacred realm where Zordon had found the crystal of light, had been broken. The Blackness that was foretold about in the prophecy of Zordon long ago was free. It waited for 1000 centuries for an energy that would break the seal, and set them free, and Zordon's energy wave did the trick. Earth's peace would not last long, for as the prophecy foretold, a time of peace would be followed by a time of great tribulation, and that is where the story of the Legendary Forgotten Warriors - the Power Rangers, begins.

"Rahul, be reasonable. I am well aware of how much you value your slaves, but Volvagia believes that as they increase in strength and number, they will threaten the existence of his world wide power. He has worked hard to bring chaos to this world, he doesn’t want to see 10 years of work at destroying peace go to waste." The short demon known as Namar instructed. Namar had been sent by Volvagia, the leader of the evil forces that Zordon's energy unlocked. He was sent to meet with one of Volvagia's most trusted generals, Rahul. Rahul sat upon his throne pondering what Namar had just said to him, when a young boy burst into his chamber. "Rahul, I thought I would find you here. You can't do this, you cant let Volvagia destroy my people. When my parents were destroyed accidentally in one of your mine cave ins, you took me in as your own. I know you have compassion in your heart, you know killing all these people isn't right!" The boy shouted with anger in his eyes.

This boys name was Shawn. When he was born, peace still reigned in the galaxy. He saw the slow rise to power that Volvagia took, he had seen first hand how evil the world had truly become. When he was only 10 years old his parents, who were slaves under Rahul's command were killed in a mining accident while trying to uncover Thundrillium from the earth's crust. Rahul did have pity on the boy, and took Shawn in. He saw potential in him to become a great general in Volvagia's army. Shawn only had one fatal flaw. He had goodness in his heart, and with that weakness he could never be a part of what Volvagia planned to do.

Rahul rose from his throne, enraged at what Shawn had said. "That’s it! I took you in as my own, and this is the thanks I get. I have no compassion in me, I had pity on you, and nothing more. I will do the same for my slaves. They have one week left to live, for I do pity them. Lets see how much compassion you think I have when you spend the next 24 hours in the hyper barric chamber Shawn. Guards, take him out of my sight." Rahul decreed. Namar rose from his chair as well, "Well done Rahul, Volvagia will be pleased with this. I will tell him that by the end of the week, you will need a new post. Oh, and Rahul." Namar paused. Rahul turned to him with curiosity in his eyes. "Do more than just imprison the boy, kill him as well." After making the final statement, Namar rose to his feet, and left the chamber, not another word was spoken.

"Guards, bring the boy back in." Rahul ordered, and Shawn was shoved through the doorway to the chamber. "You can't kill my people like that Rahul, they serve you well, they wont rebel and you know it. You have to stop this." Shawn stated. "No! Compassion is weakness, I cannot allow them to live. If Volvagia believes them to be a threat, then so do I." Suddenly a dark figure entered the room. "Ah, Rahul. Finally we meet." The figure shouted. As Rahul turned to see who was calling out to him he yelled, "Who dares enter my presence unannounced while I am in conference?" When he turned, he immediately fell to the floor. "Your, Your, Your, Volvagia." Rahul said shockingly. "Yes, and I have come to remedy your problem. You have a weak link in your household Rahul, and it starts with this boy. Guards seize him!" Volvagia yelled. Rahul dove in front of the guards, "Shawn - run!!" He yelled. Shawn darted out the door, and into the forest outside the fortress.

"Get him you fools, he cannot be allowed to escape!" Volvagia commanded. The Guards ran fast after Shawn. As Shawn continued to run through the forest, a portal opened in front of him. He didn’t even notice it as he looked behind him to see how close the guards were behind him. After entering the portal, it closed behind him, and a being in a robe, whose face and identity were concealed, appeared in pure white light before him. "Where am I? Why am I here? What do you want with me?" Shawn asked the figure. The being approached him, "I am Sage, servant of the good Wizard Zordon, my identity must be kept secret to ensure the success of my mission. At last I have found you - chosen one." Shawn was perplexed, "Ok, now I know who you are, but what does that have to do with me, and what do you mean - Chosen One?" Sage instructed Shawn on the history of Zordon, and on his plan to separate the crystal he found in the realm of Sages, so that if the great Blackness was ever released there would be a new hope against the final tribulation.

Shawn was confused after hearing the story of Zordon's life, and demise. "But if Zordon knew that this evil would arise, why did he sacrifice himself to stop the existing evil? It was all for nothing." Sage looked at Shawn, "Zordon had hoped that these evil forces would never be released, but he was not naïve enough to believe that Evil would never arise again. Good cannot exist without evil, it like the yin and the yang, the night and the day, the winter and the spring. Evil would arise once again, but by leaving these crystal shards in the care of 6 human clans, he would ensure that the earth would be ready for the next evil attack. For 20 years I have searched for the one who would fulfil his destiny, and bring together the force that would stop the Blackness. Shawn - you are the chosen one. The crystal passed down to you by your father is one of the shards separated by Zordon himself. It ensures your destiny."

Shawn knew deep in his heart that what Sage said was true. He knew that all the other hope the world had ever had, or will have, was gone. He was the last hope for a dying world. "I will journey to find the others Sage. I will fulfil my destiny and Zordon's plan. The world must be free from Volvagia's grasp, and I'm willing to put my life on the line to make sure the earth is free once again." Sage nodded his head at Shawn, "Then let your journey begin, for the power rangers will only arise once again when 5 of the 6 crystals are brought together, I will guide you in your quest to find the others. Go swiftly Shawn, and do not take this task lightly, you will form the Power Rangers, and free the world once again." As Sage concluded that statement, Shawn again found himself in the forest outside Rahul's fortress. Shawn was surrounded by Volvagia's guards, but as he pulled out his crystal shard, he was teleported to a mountaintop overlooking the valley he had lived in for so long. He was saved. Now he would leave the life he knew behind, he would find the others called to be Power Rangers. Now his journey could begin.

Back in Rahul's throne room, the guards sent after Shawn returned. "Volvagia sir, the boy escaped in a stream of light, there was nothing we could do." The head soldier instructed. Volvagia said nothing, but lifted his hand, and the 5 guards fell to the ground dead. "Well Rahul, you have seen how I handle failure, now you will see how I handle betrayal, and make no mistake, by having compassion for the boy, you have betrayed me." Volvagia signaled for another creature to be let into the chamber. It was his demon servant Univex. Volvagia laughed as he told Univex, "This one is all yours." Rahul was drug away screaming.
