"Hit me with your best shot!"
Foul
by TeaL
"Mulder," Scully said as she leaned over closer to her partner
from her side of the lone desk,
"I appreciate you thinking of me, but Baseball?" she looked him
in the eye and narrowed hers slightly, suddenly suspicious.
"You know this isn't my sport of choice."
Mulder leaned back in his chair slightly,
"I just thought it would be nice, we never do anything
outside of work."
"*Maybe* because we see each other almost everyday *at* work,"
Scully smiled.
"Okay, look, if you don't want to go I understand," he told her.
'Oh god,' she thought, 'He's going to make that puppy dog face...'
Scully sighed.
"Fine, Mulder," she said, her lips curling into the beginnings of
a smile,
"Lets play ball."
Mulder grinned at her last words and Scully couldn't stop her own
lips as they formed the smirk she'd been trying to keep under
control.
'Damn him for being so irresistible.'
Camden Yards
2 days later
"Fox!", A voice exclaimed beside Scully.
Oh god....
Scully slowly looked up from her seat to see Diana towering
above her.
"Oh hello, Scully, I didn't know you liked Baseball!" Diana's
whiny voice told her.
Scully just smiled and tried not to grimace as Diana took a seat
beside her. She turned to Mulder, who seemed to be enjoying what was
happening beside him, and said quietly, "Three tickets?"
"Four actually, but Spender wasn't able to make it," Mulder
deadpanned.
Scully glared at him,
"Not funny."
Mulder shrugged,
"I didn't think you'd mind if I brought her along, you two
get along ok, right?"
Was he that blind?
Or just that stupid?
Scully smiled an affirmative and tried to concentrate on the
suddenly interesting empty field infront of her.
An annoying voice beside Scully broke her out of her
concentration and she had to use all of her will power to stop herself
reaching out and ripping Diana's voicebox from her
throat.
"Yes?" Scully asked, her voice dripping with venom.
"Would you mind switching seats??" Diana asked sweetly.
Scully threw her a 'You're so pathetically obvious' look, but
not wanting to cause a scene infront of Mulder, she stood.
Diana beamed and switched seats, almost tripping Scully in her
haste to be sitting next to Mulder.
The game began...... and dragged.
Scully sat grinding her teeth, she'd put up with three
excruciatingly slow innings and a constant 'Fox did you see
that?' or 'Fox look at that!' in her ear.
Scully wondered if 'Fox' would mind if she started stabbing
Diana repeatedly with her soda straw.
Suddenly a loud *THUACK*, indicating the batter had *actually*
hit the ball, echoed through the stadium.
Diana was about to sound off another round of 'Fox' when a
skull-cracking *THONK* stopped her and she fell back in her
chair.
Mulder turned, "Di....", he stopped and stared in horror.
Scully couldn't believe what had just happened.
The Baseball had hit Diana square on her forehead and the force
of the impact had pounded her back in her chair.
"Diana," Mulder managed to splutter as he jumped out of his
seat and started shaking Diana gently.
Scully chose not to warn Mulder of possible spinal damage as
she reached over and felt for a pulse.
"I'm sorry Mulder," she said shaking her head.
"FOOOOOOOOUL," a loud voice boomed over the speakers.
Scully grinned as she reached down and retrieved the ball.
She thought the call was a bit unfair.....foul? How could
a hit that good be a foul?
After the paramedics removed the body, Scully had plans to
go to the dugout and give Oriole batter number 8 the biggest
kiss of his life.
'I wonder if he'll sign my ball?'
