Note from the author: I actually planned to write this with my
friends, but one night I just decided to
write a story where my two favorite TV
characters finally give in. It took me 4 1/2
hrs and I was up until 3 am, but it's worth it
and it's done!!!!!! Enjoy!!!!!! Oh, and this
is to one of my friends (she claims to be the
next Dana Scully). I didn't go into too much
detail just for you! And sorry, this is not a
Mulder/Krycek romance. I know you love those.
Just kidding : ) !!! Also, I wrote this over the
                        summer and the World Series
Stuff is a little bit off. Let's just say Mulder
went to San Diego for game 4
and then back to NY for the parade. I actually went
                       to the parade
and it was a lot of fun!!!! I saw Derek Jeter and
was 100 ft away from him!
This is Toria's other friend, be sure to send Toria
lots of e-mail about her story. She is already
writing a sequel to this, and from what I've
heard about it, it's going to be just as great!

A.D. Skinner's Office
October 25, 1998
3 p.m.

Dana Scully thought as she sat motionless in front
of Assistant Director Skinner. Diana Fowley, Mulder's chickadee when
be discovered the X-files Frohike said, had just been named their new
partner. Scully knew that when Diana started working with them,
Mulder's old feelings for Diana would resurface. It happened with
Phoebe Green, and it surely could happen again. Oh how she hated it
when she saw Phoebe and Mulder kissing in Boston. What if that
happened with Diana? The memory of the kiss brought Scully to thinking
about her almost kiss with Mulder. Mulder never said anything afterwards and neither had
Scully. They left the subject alone, untouched. As if it never had
happened. How she longed to talk about it, but it looked like Mulder
didn't want to.
Skinner's voice brought Scully back from wherever she was. "I
trust you'll let Agent Mulder know once he gets back."
"Of course I will Sir," Scully replied coolly.
"That's all, Agent Scully." With that Scully stood up out of her
chair and removed herself from the room. She walked to the new office
she shared with Mulder, since their old one was too burned to fix.
The new office was actually a little larger. Mulder made sure that
she finally had a desk and her name on the door. she thought with a smirk as she seated herself
behind her desk. Just as she picked up an article she needed to read
for research, her phone rang. Scully still found it strange to answer
her phone while sitting at her own desk.
     "Hello," she said.
"Scully, it's me. Did you know Knoblauch garlic in German?" The
familiar voice made her speak eagerly with anticipation.
"Mulder, what does that have to do with anything? I'm assuming it
has to do with The World Series game you went to. I watched it on
television, but I didn't see you."
"Don't you know that Chuck Knoblauch is the second baseman for the
Yankees. You should be ashamed of yourself," he said in his usual
teasing manner. He continued, "I did have a great time at the game.
The only thing that was missing was you and your skepticism" The
comment made Scully blush.
"I can't believe you got a ticket to the game. It was the World
Series, plus the Yankees had the most wins in the American League
ever. The key to that was timely hitting and outstanding starting
pitching."
"You know Scully, I just got very turned on. I didn't know you
were such a baseball aficionado."
"I'm not, but I do pay attention during the game and know some
things about the sport. Speaking of sports, I'm going to have to be
one because of what Skinner just told me." Her voice went from
engaging to bothered.
     "What do you mean?"
"Well, it turns out Diana Fowley is fully recovered from her
bullet wound and is being assigned to work with us." Scully started
to twirl the phone cord around her finger.
"I know you're not a card carrying member of the Diana Fowley fan
club, Scully, but --"
Scully cut him off. "I know she's qualified, Mulder. I just
think that three's a crowd."
"Really?" A voice that did not come from the phone came from
doorway. Scully looked up and recognized Diana Fowley.
"The door was open, I figured you wouldn't mind if I came in.
I'm assuming you're talking to Mulder." Her voice was daring, like she
wanted a reply. Scully just stared. She couldn't stand knowing that
she would have to work side-by-side with her.
"Scully? Hello? I am still on the phone. Look, I'll be at the
office in an hour. I just got back from New York. Tell Diana, because
I know she's there. Have fun." With that, he hung up, leaving Scully
to deal with his old "chickadee." Only Mulder would end a conversation
like that. For a moment Scully pondered pretending to the continue
the conversation so she wouldn't have to talk to Diana, but that was
childish. <"A man has to face his demons" Mulder once said, and boy is
that true now.> She hung up the phone and uncurled the cord from her
finger. The red marks on her finger stood out and she rubbed it while
trying to muster up some trite thing to say to Diana. Diana beat her
to it, "Your new office looks a little larger. It also seems that you
finally got a desk."
Scully tried to hold herself back, but she couldn't. Diana
provoked her. "We're very observant today, aren't we?"
Diana ignored her and changed the subject while gazing about the
office. "Did Mulder say when he will be here?"
"Yes, he did. In about a hour. Feel free to leave and walk
around the building while you wait."
"That's quite all right. I'm sure Mulder wouldn't mind if I just
sat at his desk. You can go about your business."
       Scully picked up her
article and held it up to her face. She stared at the first page and
read the words, but nothing sunk in. She was too busy worrying about
what Diana was doing. Every ten seconds Scully looked up over her
article and glared at Diana, who was taking in everything on the walls
and on Mulder's desk. That kept up for about 45 minutes until finally
he casually walked into the room.
"Mulder!" Diana and Scully said in unison. Disgusted with
herself for sounding so desperate, Scully got up and straightened her
suit jacket. "Where's your inflatable, blue Yankee bat?" she teased,
hoping that would redeem herself.
"You know that the FBI frowns on bringing toys to the office."
Mulder's familiar half smile crept on his face and for some reason out
of her control the same smile fell onto her lips as well. She missed
his snide remarks while he was gone. Then he turned to face Diana.
"It's nice to see you out and about, Diana"'
"I'm glad I'm out of the hospital alive myself," she replied,
hoping she could get him to smile at her. Instead he told them about a
new case out in a small township in New Jersey.
Once he was done briefing them, it was too late to start anything.
"First thing tomorrow we leave for New Jersey. I already arranged
the plane tickets. We should all go home."
"That sounds okay with me," Diana agreed.
      Scully only nodded
in agreement and walked out the door, forgetting about the article she
needed to finish her report.

Mulder's Apartment
October 26, 1998
6:55 am

Mulder awoke to the pounding of rain at his window. Thunder
clapped and lightening blinded him. The clock read 6:55 am.
While Mulder was in the shower, all be could think about was
Scully and Diana. His new partner and his old partner would have to
work with each other. He felt bad for Scully, but glad that Diana was
alive and working with him. They did make a good team and couple, but
then his partnership with Scully was much stronger. Flashes of his
almost kiss with her whirled in his mind.

Mulder and Scully's Office
October 26, 1998
8:15 am

Mulder was surprised to see Diana at his desk when he arrived at
the office. It was only quarter after eight. Scully hadn't arrived
yet.
"I guess we're not flying today, are we?" Diana said, not looking
up from the file she was reading.
"No, I don't think so. Once Scully comes in we can decide what to
do." Diana stood herself up and walked over to where Mulder was
standing near the door. She opened her mouth to say something. "I had
a hard time sleeping last night. It's been like that for awhile. I
keep remembering the times we spent together, when we were together.
The sleepless nights made me realize want us to be like that again."
"I don't know, Diana," Mulder protested, but she put her finger to
his lips.
Meanwhile, Scully walked down the hall, hoping Mulder would be in
the office alone. She approached the door, seeing it was open.
 She saw
two shadowy figures in the doorway. They were Mulder and Diana's.
Diana's index finger gently touched his mouth and she leaned in and
and kissed his parted lips. He returned the kiss forcefully, then
gently. Scully ran in the
other direction, right to her car.
Back at the office, Mulder pushed Diana away. "No! This doesn't
feel right."
"But you're wrong, Mulder. This feels so right." Diana replied,
her voice begging for more.
       Mulder couldn't let go of
that thought.
"Is it Scully?" Diana's voice cut through the air like a knife.
"Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. I don't know." He sounded
genuinely confused. Mulder sat down at his desk. Diana left to see a
former colleague on the floor above them. Mulder continued to sit in
the stillness of the room, trying to sort out his feeling.
At 9:15, Mulder gave up waiting for Scully so he could tell her
what was on his mind. He grabbed his phone and dialed her number.
After three rings she finally picked up.
"Hello?" Her voice was of someone who had been crying.
"Scully, it's me. We need to talk. Why aren't you at the
office?"
Scully tried to hold back a sob. "I'm
sick. I have a bad cold. It came about suddenly," she lied, hoping
that he would believe her.
     "You seemed fine yesterday.."
"Like I said, it came about suddenly." Her voice was terse, it
somehow hurt him.
"I'll be in the office all day if you need me."
Scully turned away from the phone and let out a sob
she couldn't hold in. She returned to the phone. "Good bye, Mulder,"
said and hung-up the phone before he replied.

Mulder and Scully's Office
October 26, 1998
9:40 pm

The day dragged for Mulder. He felt so helpless. Scully sounded
like she wanted to say what was bothering her, but obviously if she
wanted him to know about it she wouldn't have made up the lame, "I have
a cold" excuse.
He just sent Diana home, telling her that he would finish up.
Scully probably didn't come to work because of Diana. Scully was fine
until Diana came into the picture yesterday.

Scully's Apartment
October 26, 1998
9:45 pm

Dana Scully spent the whole day evaluating her relationship with
Fox Mulder. She concluded that if Mulder wanted to be more than
friends with her, he would have acted on it. < I guess Mulder just felt
their almost kiss didn't matter. Like it meant nothing.> He acted on
his emotions with Diana. Scully just had to accept Diana and Mulder
and forget about her chances with him.
< Now, where did I put that article I was basing my report on?
Great, that was the important thing I left on my desk yesterday. It's
late, maybe Mulder left. If he hasn't, I'll just tell him the truth,
that I saw the kiss and I'm okay with it. Liar, I'm not okay with
it, but it's the only thing I can do.> She ran to her car and turned
on the radio, hoping a song she liked was playing. No such luck, it
was a man talking, "And now for some Celine Dion, "To Love You More."
< Great, a love song. That's all I need.> She reached to turn off the
radio, but something made her move back to the steering wheel. The
melody was catchy, but there was something about the words that made
her think.

//"Take me, back into the arms I love.
Feel me, like you did before.
Touch me once again,
And remember when
there was no one that you wanted more"//

There were those memorable times when Mulder took her into his
arms to comfort her. He held her tenderly, like he wanted to. Then
there was the almost kiss. She felt like there, was no one else in the
world for her at that moment except for him.

//"Don't go, you know you'd break my heart.
She want of you, like I will.
I'm the one who'll stay,
When she walks away
and you know I'll be standing here still"//

The idea of Mulder and Diana did break her heart.

//"I'll be waiting for you here inside my heart.
I'm the one who wants to love you more.
You will see I can give you
everything you need.
Let me be the one to love you more."//

This song started to build up Scully's confidence and turned her
heart around. < My heart will always wait for Mulder. If I can't stand
to see him kiss someone else, my heart is telling me that he should be
kissing me. I do love Mulder more than Diana could and ever will. I
always will.>

//"See me, as if you never knew.
Hold me, so you can't let go.
Just believe in me,
I will make you see
all the things that your heart needs to know."//

< Mulder sees me as if he doesn't know I love him. I want him to
hold me, so he can't let me go. I will definitely make sure that he
sees all the things his heart needs to know.>

//"I'll be waiting for you, here inside my heart.
I'm the one who wants to love you more.
You will see I can give you
everything you need.
Let me be the one to love you more."

"Somehow, all the love that we have
can be saved.
Whatever it takes, we'll find a way
Believe me, I will make you see
all the things that your needs to know."//

< I can save my love for him by telling him. By putting it out in
the open. Maybe he feels the same way. I can convince him, make him
believe in us. He is a "believer."> Scully pulled into a parking
space and saw Mulder's car parked across from hers. < He's still here.
No more waiting.> She ran through the building and to their office.
Her body trembled at the thought of telling him everything. She peeked
into the room. Mulder was sitting at his desk. < Last
chance to back out. No, I'm doing this.> She walled into the room.
Mulder looked up and smiled. The song popped into Scully's head,
building up her confidence again. She started her little speech.
"Mulder, I didn't lie about being sick. I was heartsick, I was sick of
the thought of you and Diana together. When I saw the kiss between you
two today --"
     "You saw that?"
     "Yes."
"Obviously you didn't stick around to see that I stopped it."
Scully just stared at him, so he continued. "This probably sounds odd,
but I felt like I was cheating," he paused, "on you." Scully chuckled
a little, realizing she felt the same way.
"I didn't think that was funny," he said sternly.
"It's not that, but I actually felt that you were cheating on me.
That's why I was crying. I'm the one who sounds odd, more like
stupid."
"That's not true, Scully. I don't think I could ever get involved
with anyone else, except you. Ever since I met you, you've had a hold
on me I can't explain."
"Extraterrestrial, maybe," Scully said, causing them to both
laugh. She continued, "I keep thinking back to right before I was
stung by that bee in your hallway. We were about to kiss, but we never
finished it."
"If you thought that what Diana and I shared was a kiss, check
this out." He pulled her up against him and shared the most
incredible, most passionate kiss they both ever had.
Meanwhile, Diana made her way down the hall to the office she now
shared with Mulder and Scully. Stupidly, she left her house key on
Mulder's desk and had to drive from her apartment back to the FBI
headquarters to get it. As she made her way towards the door, she
heard talking. She continued her quest to retrieve her key and stopped
short right in front of the open door. Mulder, the Mulder see
desperately wanted, was kissing Scully. More passionately than he had
ever kissed her. < Forget the keys, I've got to leave.> She ran to
her car and drove off in hurry, forgetting about the heavy rain that
fell from the sky and the slick roads before her.

Mulder and Scully's Office
October 26, 1998
10:13 pm

"Maybe we should go somewhere else and finish this?" Scully said
after they'd taken their first breath in a very long time.
"I think you're right, Dr. Scully. Any suggestions?" Mulder
replied, obviously eager to go further.
"Your place is closer, Mulder. The closer, the better."
     "If that's what you want."
     "Actually, I want you."
     "Isn't that obvious?"
"Let's go!" They ran out of their office, out of FBI Headquarters,
and right to his car. Mulder nervously tried to stuff the key into the
ignition.
"It's raining pretty hard. Don't drive too fast. I'd rather have
you alive when we make it to your place," Scully said in her worried,
mother-like tone.
"I agree." Mulder started the car and drove slowly, but not too
slowly, on the slick road to his place. Once they got there, the
festivities started, but stopped suddenly when the phone rang. Mulder
answered it with a very angry tone.
"Hello? This is the D.C. police. I understand you are a friend
and partner of Diana Fowley's?"
"Yes, we work at the FBI. What do you want? I'm in the middle of
something very important." Scully stood by the couch, making gestures
as if to say, "Come on, let's get going," but Mulder continued the
conversation. "Is this something important?"
"Yes it is. I'm sorry, but Diana Fowley just died in a car
accident. She slid off the road. Apparently she didn't care about
the slick roads."
The news shocked Mulder, but there were more important matters at
hand. "You're sure it was Diana? Absolutely sure?"
"Someone came and identified her, plus she had her FBI badge and
tag on her."
"If that's all, good night." With that be hung up.
"What happened? It has something to do with Diana, right?" Scully
continued to ask him questions until he finally said that it wasn't
important. He picked Scully up and carried her into his never before
seen bedroom, where he forgot completely about Diana, and they finally
crossed the line that made them partners in yet another way.

Well, how did you like it? Please send me any comments or flames,
all will be happily accepted. Also, please note that this is my first
piece of FanFic, so please be a little easy on me if you completely
hated it. A sequel should be coming along any day now, so just wait.
