Will there be a new Trek Series?? - Murray
The following article was extracted from Star Trek Monthly Sept99.
"Although there are no immediate plans to produce a replacement for Star Trek Deep Space Nine, a new Star Trek series show could reach our screens within the next three years.

In a recent conversation with USA today, the Star Trek franchise's guiding light, Rick Berman, confirmed that Paramount Pictures' current strategy was to focus all their attention on Voyager in the coming season and allow the hunger for further Star Trek spin-off series and films to build. (cruel, eh)

Interestingly, Berman then revealed that he wouldnt be surprised if a fifth series premiered towards the end of 2000. "I dont expect the hiatus to be more than a year" (referring to the gap between DS9s finale and the start of a new series)

Berman subsequently clarified the state of play regarding a new show during an interview with the LA times. While maintaining his view that a fifth series could be rushed into production for a US debut of September 2000, he stated that "it's a pretty good bet" that the new show should premier September 2002.

As for the premise of a new series, a tight-lipped Berman said that it would take the Star Trek franchise in a new direction, while remaining true to Gene Roddenberry's original vision.

Will Voyager Return home in Season Six? - Murray
With the new season of Voyager soon to air in the US, the question of Voyager returning home has once again become a source of great speculation. Last year, a number of cast members such as Ethan Phillips, Robert Picardo and Tim Russ said that they were certain it was going to happen in season five, but it didn't happen.

Some rumors are saying Voyager will come home this season, possibly in a two parter over the holidays. (Part One will air just before Christmas, and Part Two will pick up the storyline in the new year.) This seems rather unlikely and fairly unwise, given holiday viewing levels are the typically the lowest of the season for all shows on TV.

Brannon Braga has said that if they do it, he wants to do it when no one expects it-- not in a season premiere or finale.

With all the possible options, doing it as this year's two-hour February Voyager movie seems to make the most sense, given the fact that two hours allows for more story, and that the mid-season movie is usually the peak level of viewership in the second half of the season.

Another rumor is that UPN, the same network that was pressing for Voyager to come home last year to give Voyager a better, (in the words of Dean Valentine, UPN President) "sense of direction", vetoed the possibility of Voyager coming home this year. They are said to feel that with DS9 coming off the air, that Voyager coming back to the Alpha Quadrant now would seem to political-- in other words, a move designed specifically to capitalize on the fact that there aren't any Trek series on the air that take place in the AQ.

E3 Videos - Daniel
I just got the August edition of PC Gamer UK and on the CD there was a massive 10 minute video from E3 (The Electronic Entertainment Expo, held in LA in May). The video featured footage of three Star Trek Games. It showed about 30 seconds of the first person shooter, Voyager. Its use of the Quake III engine makes the graphics superb, and the action looks pretty good too! There were some short clips of the adventure game Insurrection and also 45 seconds of the space strategy game, Star Trek: Armada. Star Trek: New Worlds - Daniel
More Gaming News! In PCG they have another article on this cool new strategy game from Interplay. Here's an excerpt:
"Looking like the gorgeous offspring of Incoming and Warzone 2100, Star Trek: New Worlds demands that you take control of either the Federation, Klingons or Romulans and attempt to subjugate the planet in question. You'll have control of base-building, resource management and research and development; not to mention mustering your forces for battle."
It says the game is due to be released in September. You can pre-order it, see screenshots and read more, here.
