Will there be a new Trek Series?? - Murray
The following article was extracted from Star Trek Monthly Sept99. "Although there are no immediate plans to produce a replacement for Star Trek Deep Space Nine, a new Star Trek series show could reach our screens within the next three years. In a recent conversation with USA today, the Star Trek franchise's guiding light, Rick Berman, confirmed that Paramount Pictures' current strategy was to focus all their attention on Voyager in the coming season and allow the hunger for further Star Trek spin-off series and films to build. (cruel, eh) Interestingly, Berman then revealed that he wouldnt be surprised if a fifth series premiered towards the end of 2000. "I dont expect the hiatus to be more than a year" (referring to the gap between DS9s finale and the start of a new series) Berman subsequently clarified the state of play regarding a new show during an interview with the LA times. While maintaining his view that a fifth series could be rushed into production for a US debut of September 2000, he stated that "it's a pretty good bet" that the new show should premier September 2002. As for the premise of a new series, a tight-lipped Berman said that it would take the Star Trek franchise in a new direction, while remaining true to Gene Roddenberry's original vision."

Star Trek the 5th Generation - Murray
If you think the finale of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" heralds the beginning of the end for the "Star Trek" franchise, think again. Executive producer and "Deep Space Nine" co-creator Rick Berman says he plans to develop a new "Star Trek" series within three years at the latest. "We're about to have a unique circumstance where there is going to be only one 'Star Trek' show on the air ["Star Trek: Voyager"] for the first time in many years, but I don't think that will be the case for long," says Berman, who helped create and serves as an executive producer of "Voyager." Berman also anticipates that "Voyager" will follow the same course as its predecessors, "The Next Generation" and "Deep Space Nine," in wrapping production after no more than seven seasons (the show is winding up its fifth season). Though Berman wouldn't elaborate on the potential premise of the new series, he says "it's a pretty good bet" that the next "Trek" will be ready to hit the air by September 2002, though it could be fast-tracked to be on the air as soon as September 2000. He would not speculate whether it would air on UPN or in syndication, saying he will be satisfied either way. "I'm sure whatever we do next will be different, because we want the ability to do something that challenges us, and that takes change," Berman says. "Whatever the next television series, we hope it's dramatically different but still embodies all the visions of ["Star Trek" creator] Gene Roddenberry's idea of the future." If Berman does another series, it will apparently not include Michael Dorn among the cast. Dorn, who has played the Klingon Worf in four feature films and in two TV series, "The Next Generation" and "Deep Space Nine," over a 12-year span, says he is tired of the character and ready to move onto other roles. "I think the last feature film ought to do it," Dorn says. "Then it's time to leave the party." (Thanks to TrekToday.Com and the LA Times) |

Voyager Season Six - Murray
Voyager will return home this season! The episode will not air until January and will be a multi-parter, probably with something like 4 or 5 parts to it. There is NO confirmed story as yet, though it *might* involve an invasion of Earth by Species 8472. The rest of the story arc will probably deal with Janeway and the crew's reaction to getting home - after all, the Alpha Quadrant and Starfleet have been changed quite a bit after the Dominion war. Thanks to Warp 11 for this news.
