Without realizing where they are, Bulma and Goku camp near the Valley of the Bones, a foreboding land where one of the dragon balls seems to lie hidden. Emporor Pilof dispatches his henchmen to recover the ball, but they and Goku run into eachother, and a pack of wolves. So Goku beats up the wolves. Bulma and Goku save the life of a sea turtle from Kahrack, and return it to the sea. There, they meet the turtle's grateful friend, Master Roshi, a wise old martial arts master, who gives Bulma a dragon ball, and Goku a magical flying cloud, which can only be ridden by one who is pure of heart. Perfect for Goku. Bulma and Goku's search for the dragon balls takes them to a remote valley where they encounter Oolong, a shape-changing monster who is terrorizing a village. They are promised a dragon ball by the townspeople if they can defeat the feirce monster. But the battle never materializes as Goku discovers that Oolong is really a shape-changing coward whose real form is a pig. Oolong joins Bulma and Goku as they travel to the Diablo Desert and brave the spirits of the desert in search of a dragon ball. There, deep in the barren land,they encounter and battle Yamcha, a feice warrior, and Puar, his shape-changing sidekick. While Bulma, Goku, and Oolong recover from the ordeal of acquiring five dragon balls, Yamcha and Puar try to steal them out from under their noses so that Yamcha can obtain his own grandoise goal; never to be shy around wemon! But they're not the only ones after the dragon balls! Emperor Pilaf's henchmen are closing in as well. In the mean-time, Oolong drugs Bulma and Goku for his own devious puposes. Bulma and Gokus search for the dragon ball takes them high up to the top of Fire Mountain' Where they meet Ox-King, a feirce and mighty king whose castle is surrounded by a mountain of fire.
Goku battles Ox until they discover that Master Roshi trained both Goku's grandpa and Ox-King. They join forces and try to find Master Roshi, as only he has the power to put out such a ravaging fire. But with the battle over, Goku has a whole new set of problems: Chi-Chi, Ox-King's daughter, is in love with him. Master Roshi, who appears to be a wise, but feeble old man, reveals that he is a master of the "Kamehameha," an ancient and formidible force. The power, which he channals through his hands, creates a tremendous wave of destruction that can topple mountains. But if it is not used carefully it can be fatal. He arrives to put out the fire, but in doing so he also destroys the mountain and Ox-King's castle in the process. Oops. At least Bulma and Goku recovered the dragon ball from the castle's rubble. Bulma ang Goku's search takes them to a remote village that is being terrorized by a gang of Hells Angels with bunny ears. They apparently dress like that because the leader of the sect has the ability to turn his victems into giant carrots. Bulma gets turned into a carrot and Puar rescues her. Emporer Pilaf's giant warrior robot takes the dragon balls away from Bulma. Goku goes after the robot, but instead of battling him, Goku teaches him about right and wrong. However, its too late to recover the dragon balls which are already in the Emperor's possesion. Goku and Bulma are joined by Yamcha and Puar and go after the dragon balls, only to be captured by Pilaf's forces. With Goku, Bulma, Yamcha, and Puar imprisoned, no one can stop Pilaf from making his wish; to rule the world! Hahahaha! Goku and his friends try everything they can to escape, yet not even making a dent. Just as Pilaf is about to make his wish, Goku leads the others in a succesful escape. They arrive just in time to prevent Pilaf from making his wish, and Oolong makes his, scattering the balls back to the four winds. Goku is exposed to a full moon and transformed into a huge, alien gorilla and goes on a rampage, atacking his friends and foes alike. Bulma, Yamcha, and Puar must try to return Goku to his normal self without hurting him and avoid emperor Pilaf's army while doing it. As they sucessfuly "save" Goku, they discover that his "curse" is actualy the key to his true origin.
