I am 24 years old, married
to Kristina Roberts Skarstedt with a son named Isaac Thegn Skarstedt and
a daughter named Bonni May Skarstedt on the way. As to how I know the gender
of our next child, I just know OK! I am a member of the 1/19th SFGA, in
the Utah National Guard. I jump out of airplanes on a fairly regular basis
and get to fantasize about earning my place in this great nation of ours
by going to Kosovo or some such by virtue of my membership in the illustrious
United States Army. I am also an English major at Brigham
Young University with an emphasis in Technical Writing. Sci-Fi and
Fantasy are my hobbies, both reading and writing them. I dream of someday
making a living from writing such fluff. So, I am constantly plaguing the
magazines with examples of my work. Until I get a novel written I will
be pumping out the short stories. My head would explode if I didn't. Feel
free to offer me money for the rest of "Gladiator" It would make my day.
My favorite authors are, in order: Robert Heinlein, Jack Vance, Roger Zelazny,
Robert E. Howard, Simon R. Green, David Gerrold, Larry Niven, Jerry Pournelle,
Alan Cole and Chris Bunch etc... As an English Major at BYU I have had
the vast privilege of getting to know Marion K. "Doc" Smith. He is a great
man. My other claim to fame at BYU is as the planning committee chair of
"Life, the Universe and Everything" BYU's annual Science Fiction and Fantasy
Symposium. My experiences in the National Guard have helped me in many
ways. Not only do I better understand the way that the world works I understand
the way that I work. As an example of what I mean: Anyone can run two miles
in under 12 minutes. It is just a gut check. Will power is sufficient.
You just have to be willing to collapse unconscious in the attempt. Try
it. You will learn two things. Collapsing unconscious can be a pleasant
prospect at certain times of your life and your body is capable of more
than you think. Kristina, my wife, is an aspiring children's authoress.
She does amazing things with colored pencil and water colors for her illustrations
and I am fortunate that she doesn't have much interest in writing Sci-fi
of Fantasy or she would beat me into print. Intolerable is what that would
be. My son Isaac is... well I wouldn't want to go there now would I?
