Ferrets

Illustrator Troy Howell, taken from The Redwall Encyclopedia.
As many can tell, there are many ferrets in the Redwall series. Ferrets are domesticated polecats. The European polecat is the main ancestor, which is why the scientific name is often written as Mustela putorious furo. However, since it is now believed to have been crossed with the Steppe and/or Siberian polecats, the scientific name is often written as Mustela domestica. Most breeds of ferrets are generally like their ancestors (though smaller and more social), with brownish base color and darker limbs and facial mask. However, because of the many color varieties now, some are quite different looking. For more on ferrets visit my other website, The Shrine for the Worship of Romsca.
