Here's a strange curiosity: these are concept design sketches for the X-Corps storyline in Uncanny X-Men #401-406 (done by J.H. Williams III, apparently). They were posted on the web in 2001, and there was a rather negative reaction to them; in the end, the designs weren't actually used, except on the cover of UXM 403. You can probably guess why...X-Corps was supposed to be a bit of a fascist organization in that they were mutant cops, and these sketches kind of overdo the motif. Avalanche and Blob look like wannabe Nazis! There was also a similar uniform for Banshee, who formed and led the X-Corps.

Addendum:

In the House of M reality, Pyro was a member of Australia's ruling mutant regime, a group which favoured uniforms distinctly inspired by those of the Nazis. Take a look at what he's wearing; again, click on the images for the larger pictures.

Marvel certainly seems to like the idea of these guys dressed as Nazis, don't they? It kind of makes me wonder what they think of the characters.
