Savage Garden is a inspirational Australian pop duo comprising of two of the finest songwriters to hit planet earth with their no. 1 songs: Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones. Their mix of groovy tunes don't fit the norm, and are refreshing, addictive and fantastic!
Hayes and Jones come from Logan, a suburb within Brisbane, Australia. They originally met through a mutual love of music when Jones advertised for a singer in the local newspaper, and Hayes replied. They toured around the coast with local bands, but when they made the decision to break away and start writing their own music in 1994, the world had not yet realised the significance of this decision, and that it was the best decision they had ever made.
Originally for Essex, England, Jones' is the technician behind the programming and arrangement of the music, and his early influences by XTC, Gabriel, Tears for Fears are evident within the music. Hayes - the one with the unique voice which has, as Rosie O'Donnell claims, "A George Michael" quality to it - however, is quite different, having been raised on Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Prince, Duran Duran and The Smiths. They are about as different as day and night, including their looks and personalities (Hayes being outgoing and with dark hair, Jones being shy and with blonde Hair) but it is a combination that has worked perfectly, and has rocked the world.
Their debut album, the self-titled "Savage Garden" was produced by arguably the most successful 'first album producer' in the music scene, Charles Fisher, and was mixed by the infamous Chris Lord Alge, and was entirely recorded in Australian studios. Contained within it are the hit singles: "I Want You", "To the Moon and Back", "Truly, Madly, Deeply", and "Break me Shake me", and undoubtedly there are more to come from this album! And we can't wait to see what else Savage Garden have in store for us with their future songs/albums!
Savage Garden also created history on the 1st April, 1997 when their self titled album debuted onto both the national ARIA and AMR charts at number 1, whilst their third single "Truly Madly Deeply" also hit the number 1 spot on both national singles charts. Savage Garden is the first Australian band ever to achieve this.
