Terry Brooks's novel of Star Wars: Episode One: The Phantom Menace will be coming out May 3rd. It will tell the story from the point of view of a character who is different from the character whose view we will see the story unfold on the theater screen. The general release date for the film is May 19th.
A special preview showing of "Trekkies" was held in Indianapolis a while back. It should be coming out to theatres around the same time as the new Star Wars film. (It is a documentary film about Star Trek fans that Denise Crosby had a hand in preparing.) The final 2 hour episode of Deep Space Nine will air the week of May 31st. It is being written by Ira Behr and Hans Beimler. It will tie up all of the plotlines for all the regular and recurring characters. William Shatner will appear in the season finale of "Third Rock from the Sun" that will air the week of May 25th. The first Doctor Who audio program by Big Finish Productions entitled "The Sirens of Time" with Peter Davison, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy has been recorded and will be coming out in June. This is considered canon according to Gary Russell's comments in issue #275 of Doctor Who Magazine. The next 2 stories have already been commissioned. August's release will be a Davison story with a Colin Baker story to follow in October. Outpost Gallifrey (http://www.gallifreyone.com) and the Sci-Fi Weekly newsletter (http://www.scifi.com/sfw/) are 2 great sites that will give you more info on many of these stories. Kevin Conway (Kahless) was not able to appear at the Camp Dover Peace Conference due to a professional commitment. {ED NOTE: However his cousin brought a recorded message from Kevin who apologized for being unable to appear.) It looks as if it is possible that both Leni Parker (Da'an) and Lisa Howard (Lily) may be leaving Earth: Final Conflict prior to its fourth season due to the desire of each of them to have children. The third and fourth season of the show have already been confirmed as going ahead. New episodes on Earth: FC begin next week. |

TODAY
I woke up early today, excited over all I get to do before the clock strikes midnight. I have responsibilities to fulfill today. My job is to choose what kind of day I am going to have. Today I can complain because the weather is rainy or I can be thankful that the grass is getting watered for free. Today I can feel sad that I don't have more money or I can be glad that my finances encourage me to plan my purchases wisely and guide me away from waste. Today I can grumble about my health or I can rejoice that I am alive. Today I can lament over all that my parents didn't give me when I was growing up or I can feel grateful that they allowed me to be born. Today I can cry because roses have thorns or I can celebrate that thorns have roses. Today I can mourn my lack of friends or I can excitedly embark upon a quest of being friendly. Today I can whine because I have to go to work or I can shout with joy because God has given me the power to create wealth. Today I can murmur because I have to do housework, or I can feel honored because the Lord has provided shelter for my mind, body and soul. Today stretches ahead of me, waiting to be shaped. And here I am, the sculptor who gets to do the shaping. What today will be like is up to me. I get to choose what kind of day I will have! Unknown - Submitted by Sharon Charles

Easter Seals The Mission: To help people with disabilities achieve independence. |
|
The Easter Seals program provides quality rehabilitation services; technological assistance; and disability prevention, advocacy, and public education programs.
When meeting a person with a disability, try not to make the disability the focus of your attention. Instead, make it a point to concentrate on the individual. See him or her as you would see anyone else - in many ways, someone just like you. Realize that the individual has likes and dislikes… feelings and emotions… good days and bad days. Keep in mind that just as many of the difficulties faced by people with disabilities stem from society's negative or inaccurate attitudes - or from environmental obstacles and barriers - as from the disability itself. Here are some additional points to remember when meeting a person with a disability: Things we ordinarily take for granted may be difficult or impossible for a person with a disability, depending on the nature and extent of the disability. In many cases, a person may have spent days, weeks, or even years in therapy, learning for the first time - or re-learning - even the simplest of tasks. Remember that the person is likely experiencing a high degree of personal frustration when dealing with tasks that most of us take for granted. This is particularly true of people who have lost a skill they previously had - which is often the case with victims of stroke, or amputees. They certainly don't need to sense your frustration on top of their own. Ordinarily they are trying the best they can. Recognize this fact, and try to be understanding and patient as you can. Many disabilities are caused by factors other than disease. Disabilities often result from accidents on the job, accidents in the home, auto mishaps, sports injuries or natural disasters . The important thing to remember is that a disability cannot be passed on to others. Yes, a person with a disability may take longer to do certain things. Focus on the person, not the process of getting from "Point A to Point B". Don't dwell on the disability itself. Try not to constantly step ahead of the person, only to pause and wait for him or her to catch up. This only makes everyone feel uncomfortable. Whenever possible, let the person with the disability set the pace. Apply the same criteria as you would to a non-disabled person. Only through understanding and education can we help overcome some of the myths and misconceptions that people with disabilities face. By discussing these issues with others, you can help eliminate some of these attitudinal and physical barriers. Together, we can help create greater opportunities for people with disabilities to enjoy, to the fullest extent possible for each individual, the same rights, privileges and opportunities available to everyone. IF YOU WOULD LIKE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES, OR HOW YOU CAN BE OF HELP, CONTACT YOUR AREA EASTER SEALS. EASTER SEALS NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS 230 WEST MONROE STREET CHICAGO, ILL 60606 REMEMBER THAT PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES HAVE OPINIONS OF THEIR OWN, AND NEED TO EXPRESS THEM. IN OTHER WORDS, ALWAYS TREAT A PERSON WITH A DISABILITY JUST LIKE YOU WOULD WANT TO BE TREATED - WITH RESPECT, COURTESY AND CONSIDERATION. Help Create a Sustainable Energy Future Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. |
|---|
| We can be energy-wise and contribute to overall environmental health by reducing our consumption of items we don't really need, and by reusing, recycling and buying recycled products whenever possible. Recycling not only reduces solid waste, it also saves energy and lessens heat-trapping greenhouse gas emissions. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, If Americans reduced waste generation to 1990 levels and increased recycling from the current 27% to 35%, greenhouse gases would be reduced as much as if nearly 7 million cars were taken off the road for one year. |
